At FIWA's Vesihuolto 2024 in Oulu, M.Sc. (Tech.) Petri Reijonen presented how decentralizing groundwater intake helps ensuring good quality and quantity of groundwater. The conclusion of the presentation was that decentralizing groundwater intake is a cost-effective and long-term solution for ensuring water intake in comparison with water treatment and increased maintenance of the wells. By decentralizing the water intake, the root cause of the problems can be fixed, the reliability of water intake in exceptional situations is improved and the risks are reduced, whereas with maintenance and water treatment only the symptoms of the problem are treated, not the cause behind them.

With his presentation, Petri Reijonen demonstrated the importance of decentralizing groundwater intake for ensuring the quality and quantity on groundwater.
